Effect of Kalanchoe daigremontiana on skin regeneration.
MEDICINAL PLANTS IN DERMATOLOGY
In recent years, there has been an increase in interest in medicinal plants. Out of over 400,000 plant species, about 40,000 are considered medicinal,
of which only 900 species are used in world trade. Scientists are constantly looking for new plants, as well as investigating pharmacologically active compounds isolated from them that may have potential application in medicine
and cosmetology.
Cosmetic products containing ingredients of plant origin are the foundation of today's cosmetics industry. Contemporary cosmetology promotes products that contain ingredients of natural origin, such as compounds isolated from plants, extracts and vegetable oils, essential oils or powdered plant raw materials. This leads to a sharp increase in sales of natural and organic products.
The increased interest in products containing raw materials of plant origin is due to the increased incidence of dermatological diseases, as well as the greater awareness of consumers about the potentially adverse effects of synthetic substances contained in cosmetics. For the modern consumer, the properties and quality of the raw materials used in the production of a cosmetic are of great importance.
In the last 10 years, there has been an interest in plants of the Kalanchoe species. Among 150 species, the most frequently studied are Kalanchoe daigremontiana, Kalanchoe pinnata, Kalanchoe blossfeldiana, Kalanchoe tubiflora, Kalanchoe brasiliensis, Kalanchoe crenata (based on PubMed database). Kalanchoe daigremontiana, characterized by a particularly high pharmacological activity, is increasingly becoming the subject of new scientific research. Kalanchoe daigremontiana is a tropical plant from Madagascar where it grows in natural conditions, while in Poland it is grown in greenhouses or pots. The authors of scientific studies conducted on Kalanchoe daigremontiana confirmed its pharmacological properties. Scientific research conducted by Dr. Sylwia Nowak showed that the effect of the developed cream containing Kalanchoe daigremotnian extract was the disappearance of psoriatic plaques and the gradual disappearance of psoriatic foci, while no improvement was observed in the control sample. Instrumental tests confirmed that regular use of the cream with Kalanchoe daigremontiana extract does not affect the natural pH of the skin, does not cause irritation, moisturizes and strengthens the skin's hydrolipid barrier.
Based on a medical experiment and information analysis
from the product evaluation surveys collected, it was found that Kalanchoe daigremontiana cream:
is well tolerated,
accelerates regeneration and strengthens the skin's hydrolipid barrier,
soothes itching after the first application,
effectively soothes irritation and inflammation,
eliminates the symptoms of roughness, exfoliation (normalizes the proliferation of keratinocytes) and the feeling of tightness and burning of the skin,
nourishes, oils, smoothes and softens the skin,
does not disturb the natural pH of the skin,
supports protection against the effects of certain external factors (dry / hot air, detergents),
prevents the formation of new psoriasis outbreaks.
The study participants also confirmed the greater effectiveness of Kalanchoe daigremontiana cream compared to other psoriasis preparations available on the market without a prescription. The developed cream of Kalanchoe daigremontiana was well tolerated by the psoriasis participants in the study. The cream formulation without the addition of dyes and fragrances was adapted to the needs of skin with dermatoses. On the basis of the tests performed, no symptoms were found that would indicate an allergic or toxic-irritating effect of the tested cream on the skin. None of the study participants reported symptoms such as redness, burning sensation, swelling, itching, or skin tightening.
Based on the assessment of the subjects and photographic documentation, it was confirmed that the preparation supports the disappearance of existing psoriasis lesions and prevents the formation of new ones. The cream containing Kalanchoe daigremontiana extract in the prevention and treatment of psoriasis is important in reducing itching of the skin, normalizing excessive keratinization, and regenerating psoriasis.
The conducted studies confirmed that the cream containing Kalanchoe daigremontiana extract can be an excellent supplement to the treatment of various forms of plaque psoriasis and an alternative to topical steroid drugs.
